Full system scan intermittently causes BSOD

I've had this problem with NIS2005 and NIS2006, NSW2004 and NSW2006; and
with my previous machine and this one, so I can hopefully rule out hardware.
Most of the time everyting is running along ticketyboo, and then suddenly
the machine will reboot itself in the middle of a Norton Antivirus full
system scan (scheduled for 8o'clock Friday evenings). Windows Error
Reporting tells me it's an unspecified hardware fault, more specifically a
Machine Check Error. Sometimes Speed Disk will do the same thing. The only
thing I can say for sure is that it always seems to be a Symantec product
that causes it.

I can be more specific if anybody has any ideas. At this stage I'm just
trying to see if anybody else has had a similar problem, and if so, did you
have any success troubleshooting it?
Disk Doctor never finds any problems, by the way.
