Hello,

After a severe bout with the Funlove virus (detected & identified by a
now-outdated McAfee antivirus program I had at the time) I purchased a
new computer last week (Windows 98) and installed Norton Antivirus 2001,
version 7.01.57. I updated the virus file using Live Update, and just
rechecked it yesterday (Nov. 28). It reported back that my virus list
was up-to-date. However, when I look at Norton Antivirus Reports to see
the list of viruses I'm protected against, it doesn't list Funlove, even
though it's been around since 1999.

For all I know, Funlove could still be lurking in one of my 2 weeks or
older floppies, so I haven't dared use them. Symantec's Antivirus
Research Center's Nov. 8, 2000 update
(http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.funlove.4099.html)
indicates Funlove incidents have increased recently, but claims
protection has long been available:
Due to a recent increase in world-wide infections
of this virus, SARC is raising the awareness of
this virus by adding it to the "Top Threats" list.
Although protection for this virus has been
available since November 1999, SARC recommends that
users familiarize themselves with the
characteristics
of this virus by carefully reading this writeup.
Why can't I get that protection through Norton Antivirus 2001? If the
explanation lies in the writeup I was supposed to "carefully" read, I'd
appreciate an explanation geared more to my lower level of user
sophistication.

Thanks, marc
