Go into NAV Options, the Auto-Protect tab, the Sensor button (I think but am
not certain as I am no longer using the 2.x version) and there uncheck the box
to "Use virus sensor technology" also known as "unknown virus detection".
This option is not on by default so you must have recently turned it on.
While it has it uses, one thing that having it activated does is make NAV
sensitive to changes in the size/content of program files. The downloadable
virus defs are a *.exe file which is a program file. You are probably using
the MSIE and it has the bad habit (fixed in Win 98) of downloading a file to
its real name instead of using a meaningless pseudonym. What's wrong with
that? Nothing really unless you happen to have "unknown virus detection"
turned on -- in that case NAV sees a *.exe file that starts out with no
content and ends up a complete file so it sounds the possible virus alarm.
Turn off the not on by default virus sensor technology and you no longer will
have this problem.
