contact field not filled with first and last names

Hi Michael,

The steps you have described are correct for importing and having the
contact field populated from the First Name and Last Name.

Open the databae and place our pointer in the contact field, press F2
and this will bring up the Contact Name box, does it have first and
last name or is it blank? If it shows names, then try this, select
File > Save Copy As > Copy Database, give it a new name, this will
create a new database and cause the information to be rewritten.

If the Contact Name box is emtpy, I would re-import. Make sure the
contact field is not being mapped.
