Operating system: Windows 95a
Network: --Other--

I've been an ACT! user for many years and. I just upgraded
from 2.09 to 4.0. I use the US version of ACT! with
Windows 95 on a laptop Pentium 233 with 32mb of RAM.

When I installed the upgrade I chose to let it convert
my largest database of 2,595 records to ACT! 4.0 format.
However the layout of the fields is different and I need
to know if there is a quick way to move data around.

For example on many contacts I find I have the city name in
one of the address line fields.

I used to use the State field to put the country name so I'd
like to move the country name now to its proper place.

I used to put e-mail addresses in the field pre-defined
for Assistant. I'd like to now move this to the
pre-defined e-mail field in ACT!4.0.

Can you please help.

Many thanks

Hi Lawrence,

ACT! 4.0 does have an option to swap fields. Select Edit > Replace >
Replace > Swap fields, this will allow you to swap all the fields
mentioned but the email. The email address field is a system field.
You can import to Email Login which placess the email address into the
field but it is not a field you can swap.

You could export your contact database to a text delimited file. The
create a new database and import, remapping the fields which need to
be moved. In particular map the email address to Email Login. Once you
have created the new database with the fields mapped correctly open
the orginal and select Data Exchange > Import, ACT! 3.0 - 4.0 Database
[*.dbf] selecting the created and remapped database. In the second
screen of the Import Wizard select options and change the Merge
Options to Replace with source contact when contacts match. As long as
you have not or moved company contact and phone (default match field
critiera) you can then update the database.

We appreciate your use of Online Services.
