Hello Jennifer,

There can be a number of causes for an error in MFC40.DLL. Make sure
this machine has a printer set as default not a fax driver. Select
Start, Printers. Right-click the installed printer and select Set as
Default.

Sometimes the MFC40.DLL file itself is damaged. Since you do have
working machines, rename the file on this machine and copy the file
from a working to the non-working machine.

This document discusses issues with the VREDIR.VXD file in use. It
could also be contributing to the error you are seeing.
