Problems handshaking with certain faxes

I've noticed that there are certain faxes with which my version of
WinFax Pro 7.0 for Windows has trouble handshaking with. The fax
answers, I hear the hanshaking and I even find out the baud speed.

The machines never click and WinFax hangs up after some effort.
Any idea as to what the problem might be?
