I have installed FAX Pro 4.0 under Win98. Sending works OK. When
I was trying to set up for receiving FAXs automatically in the
background, I had the impression that I was not going to be able to
use my Internet access (Netcom 4.0) while this mode was enabled.
Consequently, I looked for a way to disable the automatic receive
mode but could not find such a capability. I just closed FAX Pro.

Then, when I started Netcom, I received an error message during login
to the effect that COM2 was shut down by user option. Several tries
later, including a reboot and additional tries, this message
eventually disappeared. It has reappeared several times but without
starting FAX Pro.

What’s up?? I am sending this message to both organizations in the
hope that you have a common solution.

WinFax Pro 4. does not support windows 98 comport sharing which uses TAPI. WinFax Pro 4 communicates directly with the modem and
hence needs to be turned off if you want to use the modem for internet.

WinFax Pro 8 and 9 use windows TAPI and can be set to share the modem with your internet dialup.
