To: Brett Simpson, [Symantec]

Thank you for your reply and suggestions concerning my inability to
get logged files to appear in the Send Log or Recieve Log in my old
version of WinFaxLite 3.0.

My WIN.INI file is pointing to the correct directory.

There is no file entitled LOG.DB in the directory containing the
logged files. There is a file entitled STATUS.FMT. If I need the
LOG.DB file can I obtain it by downloading?

Renaming the STATUS.FMT file to STATUS.OLD did not remedy my
inability to see my logged files in the Send Log or Receive Log.

If I upgrade my software by purchasing the new version of WINFAX do
you think I will be able to access and open the files that I have
logged?

Thank you.

Peter,

The LOG.DB file is the link between the events in the log and the
actual fax images. This file should be created upon running WinFax.
The fact that there is no LOG.DB file points a more serious issue.
You cannot see the events in the logs without a correct LOG.DB. You
may want to re-install WinFax and see if that resolves the issue.

The following my help:

Subject: Sanitization Procedure for WinFax

Use this procedure to remove all files and references relating to
previous
versions of WinFax from your system, prior to your installation of
WinFax
PRO 4.0.

Note: These procedures work for all versions up to and including
WinFax PRO
4.0, except the French market version, marketed as 'DelFax PRO'.

STEP ONE - LOCATE THE INSTALLATION
==================================
Search the drive for WinFax, if you are not sure of its location, or
if you
possibly have multiple installations. To search for WinFax, type the
following at the DOS prompt from the root directory of your hard drive
(for
example, C:\>> ):

DIR FAXMNG.EXE /S

Try this on each hard drive partition (C:, D: etc..). If found, the
directory where WinFax is located will be reported.

STEP TWO - SAVE YOUR DATA FILES
===============================

WinFax PRO 3.0, WinFax PRO 3.0 for Networks, WinFax PRO 4.0
-----------------------------------------------------------
If you have a previous installation of WinFax PRO 3.0, WinFax PRO 3.0
for
Networks or WinFax PRO 4.0, back up all files in the WinFax
directories. For
example:

C:\WINFAX\OLD\
C:\WINFAX\DATA\
C:\WINFAX\COVER\
C:\WINFAX\MACROS\

Use the following commands, with the appropriate directories
substituted if
your WinFax directories differ from the ones listed:

MD C:\BAKWFX
MD C:\BAKWFX\OLD
MD C:\BAKWFX\DATA
MD C:\BAKWFX\COVER
MD C:\BAKWFX\MACROS

COPY C:\WINFAX\OLD\*.* C:\BAKWFX\OLD
COPY C:\WINFAX\DATA\*.* C:\BAKWFX\DATA
COPY C:\WINFAX\COVER\*.* C:\BAKWFX\COVER
COPY C:\WINFAX\MACROS\*.* C:\BAKWFX\MACROS

STEP THREE - REMOVE THE DIRECTORIES
===================================
Delete the WinFax directories. For example:

C:\WINFAX
C:\WINFAX\OLD
C:\WINFAX\DATA
C:\WINFAX\COVER

Use the following commands, with the appropriate directories
substituted if
your WinFax directories differ from the ones listed:

DEL C:\WINFAX\*.*
DEL C:\WINFAX\OLD\*.*
DEL C:\WINFAX\DATA\*.*
DEL C:\WINFAX\COVER\*.*

RD C:\WINFAX\OLD
RD C:\WINFAX\DATA
RD C:\WINFAX\COVER
RD C:\WINFAX

STEP FOUR - REMOVE DELRINA FAX PRODUCT FILES FROM WINDOWS INSTALLATION
======================================================================
Delete the following files from your WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory. Use
the
following commands, with the appropriate directories substituted if
your
Windows directories differ from the ones listed:

DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINFAX.DRV
DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WFXCTL.DLL

Leave the following WinFax file in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory.
This
file should not be deleted in case it is referenced in the SYSTEM.INI
file.
(It will not affect a re-installation if it is present). For example:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WFXCOMM.DRV

Delete the following files from your WINDOWS directory. Use the
following
commands, with the appropriate directories substituted if your Windows

directory differ from the one listed:

DEL C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN.DLL
DEL C:\WINDOWS\FAXMNG.EXE
DEL C:\WINDOWS\MOD.EXE
DEL C:\WINDOWS\VIEWER.DLL
DEL C:\WINDOWS\RXDLL.DLL
DEL C:\WINDOWS\HELPHK.DLL
DEL C:\WINDOWS\WINFAX.HLP
DEL C:\WINDOWS\WINFAX.GRP
DEL C:\WINDOWS\WINFAX.INI
DEL C:\WINDOWS\WFCOVER.DLL
DEL C:\WINDOWS\WFVIEW.DLL
DEL C:\WINDOWS\WFX*.*

You may not find all of the files listed above.

STEP FIVE - REMOVE DELRINA FAX PRODUCT WIN.INI REFERENCES
=========================================================
Use Windows SYSEDIT to edit your WIN.INI file. Double click the
SYSEDIT icon
in the Windows Accessories group or choose Run from the File menu and
type
SYSEDIT.EXE at the command line. This program will automatically
create a
backup copy of your original WIN.INI file (called WIN.SYD) in case you
make
a mistake.

Completely remove the following sections from your WIN.INI file:

[WINFAX]
[ANYFAX]
[WFXPBLINKS]

Remove the following statements from the [Devices] section of your
WIN.INI
file:

WINFAX=WINFAX,COM2:
WINFAX=WINFAX,FAXMODEM

Remove the following statements from the [PrinterPorts] section of
your
WIN.INI file:

WINFAX=WINFAX,COM2:,15,45
WINFAX=WINFAX,FAXMODEM,15,45

Remove the following statements from the [Extensions] section of your
WIN.INI file:

cvp=C:\WINFAX\wfcover.exe ^.cvp
fxs=C:\WINFAX\wfview.exe ^.fxs
fxd=C:\WINFAX\wfview.exe ^.fxd
fxr=C:\WINFAX\wfview.exe ^.fxr
fxm=C:\WINFAX\wfview.exe ^.fxm

Remove the following statements from the [Ports] section of your
WIN.INI
file:

FaxModem=FaxModem

STEP SIX - DELETE THE WINFAX ICONS AND PROGRAM GROUP
====================================================
From Windows Program Manager:

- Select an icon from the WinFax program group and press the delete
key.
- Repeat for all of the WinFax icons.
- Minimize the WinFax program group and press the delete key.

STEP SEVEN - Re-install WinFax Pro 4.0

STEP EIGHT - RETRIEVING BACKED UP DATA FROM WinFax PRO 4.0, AFTER
REMOVING
PREVIOUS VERSION OF WinFax
==========================================================================

Location of Backed Up Data
------------------------------------------------------------
| Data Type | WinFax 2.0 family | WinFax 3.0/4.0 family |
|----------------------------------------------------------|
| Attachments | C:\BAKWFX2 | C:\BAKWFX\DATA |
| Logs | C:\BAKWFX2 | C:\BAKWFX\DATA |
| Phonebooks | C:\BAKWFX2 | C:\BAKWFX\DATA |
| Cover Pages | n/a | C:\BAKWFX\COVER |
------------------------------------------------------------

Attachments
-----------
To access Attachments after installation, copy ATTACH.DB and the *.FX*

files to your new WINFAX\DATA directory from the appropriate directory

listed above. They should be automatically recognized. If they can not
be
accessed it is likely that the ATTACH.DB file is corrupted, or
missing. In
that case, add the attachments using New Attachment in the Attachments

window.

Logs
----
To access logs, copy the *.FTM files to the WINFAX\DATA directory from
the
appropriate directory listed above. Select New Folder from the log
window
and use Select from the New Archive Folder dialog to choose the *.FTM
file
you require.

Phonebooks
----------
To recover Phonebooks, copy all the DBF files to the WINFAX\DATA sub
directory from the appropriate directory above. Select an existing
phonebook
and choose the Import option from the right click menu. From the
Import
Phone Records dialog, select the appropriate type of format (such as
dBase
III/IV). If this file is corrupt and it was originally a WinFax Lite
or 2.0
phone book, copy the PBK file and import it, again selecting the
appropriate
type of format.

Cover Pages
-----------
To restore cover pages, copy the *.CVP files to the WINFAX\COVER
directory
from the appropriate directory above. Create a new cover page folder
or
select an existing folder to store the recovered pages. Select New
Cover
Page from the cover pages window and use Select from the New Cover
Page
dialog to choose the *.CVP file you require.

Sincerely,

Brett Simpson [Symantec Corp.]
