We are using Act 2.09 on a Novell Network and when we try to create a
group in one of our databases, we get the "Program performed an
illegal operation" message and Act shuts down. We are running on
under 95 but the same thing happens on different machines and when
logged on as different users. It does NOT happen with other
databases though.
We first do a lookup then go to View, Edit groups and click on New
group. We enter a legal group name (no special characters are used)
and then it sits for a while (which appears to be a normal
occurance). When control of the machine returns, we click Select
All, then Add. When we click Add is where it blows up.
We have tried deleting some of the old groups out there but nothing
seems to help. The database is pretty large (around 92,000 contacts)
but we are not having any problems other than this.
Please help!

Hello Bill,
I would recommend using the steps I have placed below to Compress and
Reindex the database. It sounds as if there may be a problem with the
index files.
To Compress and Reindex the 2.0 database use these steps:
1. Back up the database.
2. Close ACT!
3. Locate and delete the database index files. Index files are
database files that have an extension that ends in x (*.adx, *.mdx)
4. Select Start, Run.
5. Type: C:\Actwin2\Actwin2.exe /
6. ACT! will open without opening a database.
7. Select File, Reindex
8. Select the database you want to reindex
Once the reindex is complete, select File, Open to open the database.
Let us know if problems continue after that.
