I have, currently, a copy of WinFax 8.0 which I have upgraded to
8.03. After months of fighting the SDK I have now got the damn thing
to work as I want. I have, however, some issues that have never been
clarified to myself from this discussion group. I hope, therefore,
that Eric can answer some of these questions.
I was given the impression, some time ago, that WinFax 8.0 is
compatible for use on a network. While that may not be an untruth it
is not 100 % compatible in what I would term 'Networkable'. It
appears that some kind of Fax management software must also be
installed, on the network, in order to control mulitiple faxes that
may be sent by different users on a network. If, say, 3 different
faxes went to one modem from 3 different machines there is nothing
controlling what happens such as which one goes first etc. This is
particularly evident when scheduling faxes. This, I am understood,
is handled by WinFax 9.0 kind of making the purchase of 8.0 a bit
dumb. It is either that I purchase, in addition to the purchase of
8.0, some type of modem management software, which means that in
terms of modem handling ability it ranks lower than Microsoft Fax, or
that I have to purchase Winfax 9.0.
With that in mind I have to supply my program to a number of
different sites in different countries therefore I need to know what
the situation is with whether or not I need specific language
versions of WinFax. Will an English version work anywhere? If I
buy, for example, DelrinaFaxPro in France will the coding, for the
SDK, work in the French version of WinFax?
Also, when will WinFaxPro 9.0 be available worldwide. At the moment
it appears only to be available in the States or via a download,
which is not practical.
I appreciate that you have lots of messages to get through but I
would really be grateful if you could take the time to supply me a
reasonable answer to each of the issues above. Although the help
here is free, and on the whole very good and helpful, it has at times
been very lacking on detail.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kind regards,
Tat.
If you want to use WinFax PRO 8.0 as a client across a network, you'll need
to purchase WinFax PRO 5.0 for Networks and install a WinFax PRO 5.0 Server.
You can the connect WinFax PRO 8.0 clients to your 5.0 Server. The server
must run in Windows 3.x, DOS or Windows 95. It will not function in Windows
NT. Clients may be installed with WinFax PRO 8.0 using Windows NT or
Windows 95/98
WinFax PRO 9.0 has a new feature which allows you to set up a Fax Host. The
Fax Host will communicate with other WinFax PRO 9.0 clients using the TCP/IP
protocol. The Host may be installed in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 95/98.
Clients must also be WinFax PRO 9.0 installations, previous versions of
WinFax will not connect to a WinFax PRO 9.0 HOST machine.
If you already have a WinFax PRO 5.0 for Networks server, you can set up
WinFax PRO 9.0, WinFax PRO 8.0 or WinFax PRO 4.0 clients.
For more information on setting up WinFax PRO for Networks, or other network
related issues regarding WinFax please see the following newsgroup:

In regards to coding for different versions, coding designed for one
application should function with other localized versions. However, there
are some small differences in versions.
For example,
The Delrina Fax product (available in France) does not a have printer driver
called WINFAX.DRV. The file is DELFAX.DRV. If your code specifically looks
for a WINFAX.DRV file, it will fail when using Delrina Fax PRO.
As well, if your code is looking for English specific references, it may
fail when using another language.
