Configuration Information:
Network: Windows 95
------------------------------------------------------------

We have recently bought a Gammalink Fax board CPi/100 to install in a
station with Winfax4.1 PRO for Network and Windows 95 as sysop (and
nos. 10 Winfax 8.0 clients).

I have selected the properly CPi/100 from the list but,
unfortunately, the board is not recongnized during the address memory
test.

I have tried to change the address memory of the board from 350 to
260 (with the dip switches) but the result has been the same.

The board's software has been correctly installed and it is possible
to send and receive faxes properly with it. No errors at all appears
when I work with it.

I have tried to test the modem both with 16bit gammalink TSR and not.

From one of our Clients (Winfax 8.0) it is possible to see with the
supervision the Winfax for network's modem and I can try to send
faxes from the main application of that Client but the response is
"Inactive".

Please, help me, I am desperate!

Can you explain this further and provide what exactly happens and at what
point?

If you get an error message, provide the exact error message?

Also, make sure that Gammalink drivers are disabled in autoexec.bat or
config.sys before loading Winfax drivers.

In Winfax configuration on the fax server, do you have an option "Windows95
IPX" in the network type?

From Winfax pro for Network setup:
- button: Setup Fax/modem
- Add
- Fax/Modem Type = GammaFax
- Brand = GammaLink - Gammafax CPi/100
- Fax Base Address = 250 (or 350 after having change switches on
board without any results)
- Test
- Appears a window called "Check Gamma Board" and it remain on screen
for a couple of seconds
- Appears a window called "Winfax Pro for Network setup = "No
Fax/Modem has been detected at the specified I/O address"

P.S.: Note that with the same Memory address the Gammalink software
works correctly (even within DOS task in WIN95)

Yes, I am sure, nor in Cofig or Autoexec is present any Gammalink
driver

No, there is no such option, I have installed the original diskettes
of Winfax Pro for Network 4.1 and following I have only substituted
the Modems.dat file with the newest present on your web site.

DO NOT DO A TEST. There is a problem with running Delrina test, or the
selecting Test button in the Configuration. The system will either lock up,
or will never find the modem.

Configure the modem with the correct memory address and other parameters.
Then save the configuration and try loading the DLLs.

Test the modem by actually sending a fax.

Also, open Winfax configuration on the fax server and check if network type
list has an option
Windows95 IPX or Windows95 NetBIOS. If not, then download a patch
WFN415A.EXE off our web site

[<a
href="http://service.symantec.com/ftp/winfxftp.html">http://service.symantec
.com/ftp/winfxftp.html </a>]

Put the patch in a separate directory and run the exe. It will expand into
several files including the readme.
Make sure to check the instructions in readme file before installing the
patch. There are special instructions for
administrative or shared install.

Apply the patch on all Winfax machines (Windows 3.x/Windows95) including
the fax server.

DO NOT install this patch on any station running Winfax Pro 8.0 as client
for the fax server .

Can you provide the English translation of the error message?

Make sure that you have all background applications closed and Winfax

No, I could not since I had not installed client version of Wfx 4.1 on that

No-one application run in the background during the installation.
During the first attempt, yes Wfx server DLLs were running and the setup
program detected them and ask me to unload them. I did it the I went on with
the installation when the error described above appeared.

After that, I tried several other times (without DLLs loaded) but always
with the same error message.

Muhammad,

1. It is not possible to update to release 8.03 on the machine where it is
installed the server 4.1 (updated to 4.15a) since the setup program stopped
with the error I mentioned. So the patch that update the release do not find
an installed version 8.0/8.1 of the program.

2. I tried to install WinFax 8.0 in another machine with success and then I
updated it to 8.03.
The Gammafax succeeded on receive a fax (finally) and then forward it to
the other machine which was been configured as a receiver.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to send faxes: the send window appears
but the fax do not compose the number (on the server it has been inactivated
the flag "detect dial tone").
To try to send a fax I have modified the WFXNET.INI with the lines that are
described in the documentID 199619153930 of you tech site with the result
that now the fax do not answer anymore!

Once again I ask you details in order to let's work this program

Regards,
Giovanni

CD received and installed, this time all went OK.
Unfortunately, Gammalink board CPi/100, even if re-installed, doesn't work
with the program.
(the receiver is correctly configured, even in the same machine of the
server, the protocol is IPX, even trying the WFXNET.INI as advised in your
tech doc 199619153930, dial detect tone activated and deactivated)

Sending: the send window appear, with written on it that the machine is
composing the number but nothing happened.
Receiving, the machine answer after one ring but, on the other hand of the
phone, it is listened a tone without any fax talking.

Please, let me have your idea.

Giovanni

The problem could be due to the fact that the fax is connected to a
telephone switchboard that probably have a different dial tone from US
standard. (even if it is a continue tone similar to it).
The GammaLink dialer here in Rome reported me, for what concern the Gammafax
software, to include in their INI file (called "GFAX.$DC") a string like
this:
MODEMCTRL 1 1034 1
This command let the board ignores the recognize of dial tone during the
composition of the number.
I have tried to include this command in the Winfax .INI file but at the
startup the program gave me an error.
I point out that, of course, I tried also to deactivate the dial detect
tone, with the flag present in the WinFax setup modem window without any
result.

Anyway deactivating the dial tone, does not give me the possibility to
connect a fax machine on the phone jacket of the board because, in case the
fax machine was sending a fax and there was a send fax queue, the Gammafax
ignored the sending from the fax machine.

>>Receiving, the machine answer after one ring but, on the other hand of the
>>phone, it is listened a tone without any fax talking

I have solved this problem simply insert in the INI file some strings taken
from Gammafax manual.
The strings are:
GFXDIGITS that let me decide how many DTMF or pulse tones can be entered by
a sender, and the terminating digit that will send a signal to the board
that input is finished. (in my case I put a 0 so there is no need from the
other part to digit any phone key to start the fax).

GFXDTMFTIMEOUT that let me setup the number of seconds that the board will
wait for DTMF input. (in my case I put a very short number)

The problem is that the WinFax modem setup combobox which should let me
decide if I want to use DTMF codes or not does not work correctly.

I hope this can help you on detect the core of my problem.

I remain waiting your useful help to finally lets working this fax board.

Try the following:

In the [GammaFax] section of the WFXNET.INI file, under the fax_device_name
section, add the following lines: :

gfxdigits = 4 0
gfxdtmftimeout = 5 10
gfxcommand = 1025 29 2000
gfxcommand = 1025 28 0

Don't use any 'gfxdtmftone' setting in here.

Unfortunately,nothing to do!

Now the board receives correctly faxes (even with auto-forwarding with DTMF
tones) but do not send.

I have included in the [GammaFax] section of the WFXNET.INI file, under the

gfxdigits = 4 0
gfxdtmftimeout = 5 10

and I didn't use any 'gfxdtmftone' setting in here.

The send window appeared and I listened also a click as the board is hanging
up.
But I had the impression that it did not compose the numbers.
After the numbers of time that I set for retrying the message was been moved
to sent folder with an unsuccessful flag and in the "status" line appears
the string:
[302D] GF#3074 Dial error - blocked wait delay.

In the Error and Status Codes of Gammalink this error is commented as
follows:
"Last attempt to a specified phone number was not successful and
insufficient time elapsed since the last attempt."

I have also tried to increase the quantity of time between retries without
any results.

What WFXNET.INI file are you modifying. There may be two files. One is in
Windows directory, other is in Winfax directory.

Open Windows\WIN.INI file, go to [Winfax] section, and check the line
WFXNET= and note the directory it is pointing to. Close the file and go
to that location, open the WFXNET.INI file.

If you are using the wrong file to make changes, then try with the file
pointed by win.ini file.

If you are using the correct file with no success, then from the fax server
machine, send the following files to me by e-mail :

SYSTEM.INI
WIN.INI
WINDOWS\WFXNET.INI
AUTOEXEC.BAT
CONFIG.SYS
