Configuration Information:
Version: 3.0.x
Operating system: System 7.x
Formatting: --Other--

I recently upgraded my equipment from a MACIIci to a PowerMac. My
Norton floppies are formatted for the "ci", how can I reconfigure the
floppies for the PowerMac?

I do NOT have the CD for NU3. My hard drive is badly fragmented and
I'm hesitant to insert my current 3.5 floppies with "ci" stuff on
them.

Thanks,
Sue

Hi Susan:

you mention NUM 3.0, then later mention NUM 3.5. Generally speaking,
if yours is a newer PowerMac (like G3 or iMac), NUM 3.0 is not
compatible with the OS8.1 operating system on that drive and cannot
be used. in addition, the newer PowerMacs come preformatted with
HFS+ formatting on the hard drives. NUM 3.5.x and earlier is not
compatible with that drive format and should not be used on those
drives.

The formatting on the diskettes are the same for both machines, but
you may not be able to run because the system that is installed on
the diskettes won't run your new machine (especially if it is a G3).
If the diskettes are low density diskettes (800 MB) there is no way
to try to "reformat" those diskettes. They are basically antiques.

You most appropriate option is to upgrade to NUM 4.0 for your
machine. It has the compatible system and software to address the
needs of the newer hard drives.

if I misunderstood any of your situation, please feel free to correct
me and post further questions.
