There is no update to Disk Editor, though supposedly Norton Utilities 5.0
(another year, another commercial upgrade) includes a version that does work on
HFS+ disks.
Disk Doctor 4.0 and later is compatible with Mac OS 8.6. I'd strongly suggest
using at least 4.03, but it seems that you've got that part down already. :)
Hope this helps,
Eric

Somebody's been pulling your leg. Disk Editor has been sold as a part of the
Norton Utilities (and as SUM) package for as long as I can remember. The
"official" line comes from the manual: "...Use Norton Disk Editor to repair a
damaged disk's directory or system area, or salvage data from an irreparably
damaged disk."
