Hello Gabe:

If the machine is formatted with an HFS+ hard drive (as many of the
newer G3s are), NUM 3.5.x is not compatible with that format. Also,
Apple made changes to the boot ROMs on these machines such that they
will not boot from the enabler on the CD ROM.

Contact Symantec Customer Service about exchanging the NUm 3.5.x
software for the new NUM 4.0 product (HFS and HFS+ compatible) that
released the other day. It is the appropriate version for the G3.
The number is 800-441-7234.

Hi Aubrey:

I guess I have to say that I never saw anything abhout NUM 3.5.3.
being "HFS+" compatible. All of the literature I saw said OS8.1
compatible.

There is no way to "update" NUm 3.5.x to HFS+ compatibility. The
system was designed back under OS7.6.1 and the entire software is
"broken" when it comes to HFS+. It required starting over - which is
what NUM 4.0 is all about.

NUM 4.0 (all parts) are completely HFS and HFS+ compatible.

Sorry, but can you say that "everything works correcty" on
HFS+ at least as well as 3.5 does on HFS. You were not
very specific. My interpretation of compatible only means
that it does not break anything. My question is "does it
work?" Especially disk doctor and optimization...

Thanks
Aubrey

Hello Aubrey,

There woldn't have been much point to us releasing NUM 4.0 if it wasn't as
effective on HFS+ volumes as 3.5 was for HFS.

In fact, NUM, and NDD specifically, is much advanced over NDD 3.5 for both
HFS and HFS+ volumes, fixing issues faster and more efficiently than
before. As with any new program, we're seeing issues that need more work
(please check the NUM 4.0 newsgroup for current issues customers are
having) but, as with NUM 3.5 (updated 2 times), I'm sure we'll see updates
to 4.0 that continue to improve it's error-fixing ability as time goes on.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have additional concerns or
questions.
