Hi Jon:
In order for Speed Disk to optimize, all files on the volume to be
optimized must be closed. This requires booting from and running
Speed Disk from a different volume.
If your Macintosh comes with a bootable CD ROM (System or NUM 3.5.x),
building a startup disk is optional.
Insert the CD ROM and restart holding down the C key.
Once booted, run Speed Disk or Norton Disk Dr. from a copy on a
floppy disk or the NUM CD ROM. Do not use the NUM Menuing program to
access SD in this case. Open the Install Files folder on the NUM CD
and double click on the SD application in that folder to start the
application directly.
Or create a Speed Disk startup floppy disk for your machine using the
images in the Startup Images folder on the NUM CD ROM. This disk
should boot your Mac and startup directly into Speed Disk.
Please note that we recommend running Norton Disk Doctor to repair
any directory damage and updating your backup of the drive prior to
optimizing.
Please let us know if we can be of any additional assistance..
