Howdy!

Is there a fix for the Diskdoubler V 4.0 Magic menu when using OS
8.0?

Are there Plans for future releases of diskdoubler?

The reason I ask is we have four years of files diskdoubled.

The stuffit product will not expand these archives.

Please post any fix's or workarounds on the net.

Thank You!

Hello Jeff,

At this time, Symantec has no plans to make changes to NDD Pro that will alter or increase the existing, limited functionality under OS8.  Below is a summary of the features that may still work.  However, we do not recommend running the program under OS8 and we do not support doing so.

  • CopyDoubler no longer works under OS8 and must be removed.
  • The DiskDoubler(DD) Finder menu no longer works under OS8 and must be removed.
  • AutoDoubler (AD) works with the following caveats:  it no longer decompresses in the background.  Instead, when AutoDoubler compressed files are double-clicked, it will call the Disk Doubler (DD) program and expand the file through that program in the foreground.  Also, files compressed automatically with AutoDoubler must be decompressed before being copied to another volume.  NOTE:  Files compressed with the DiskDoubler application will copy fine.  Files expanded in this manner won't automatically re-compress immediately after being closed, but they will re-compress automatically when they fall under the set AD scheduled compression time.
  • DiskDoubler Expand (a freeware expander included with the Norton Disk Doubler Pro program) continues to function under OS8 and can expand files compressed with AutoDoubler or DiskDoubler (including archives or .sea files).
  • The DiskDoubler application can still create .sea or archive files but you must run DiskDoubler manually rather then rely on the DD Finder menu extension (as mentioned above).
You can use the DD Expand program to decompress your files, by dropping your hard drive icon onto the application.  This should decompress any files that still need to be.  If any files were compressed using the AIC, you will need to run the AIC, select all files and select uncompress.   If you have uninstalled NDD Pro, you will need to reinstall.  DD Expand and the AIC should be in the NDD Pro Tools folder.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

Thank you,
