Hello Mel,

My first suggestion is to add the folder that contains that file to the
'do not compress' list in the Autodoubler control panel. The problem is
either that the file is damaged in some minor way, or that the drive is
suffering from a problem that is keeping the new, compress file from
being written to the disk.

Another suggestion would be to run a disk checking program on the drive
to check it's integrity. If it's an Apple hard disk, you can use Drive
Setup's media check/test and Apple's Disk First Aid to see what
condition the drive is in.

Or, if you have it available, you can use NUM 3.5.2 or later to check
the drive out.

Another option, if you have the space and time available, would be to
backup and reformat the harddisk. If the problem is related to the hard
disk media, that should solve it and could help with other, future
compression operations. If it's a file related issue, the reformat
won't hurt (as long as you make a good backup) and can have beneficial
side afffects, and the first option (not compressing the file) should
take care of the error message.

Please let me know if I can help further.
