The pre-install instructions and caveats for OS 8.1 noted that users
of SOME compression software (they didn't get specific) might not be
able to open compressed files after installing OS 8.1. Apple
pre-sales tech support didn't know that was in the instructions and
said they never heard of anyone having a problem and someone testing
a beta version of OS 8.1probably got unnecessarily cautious. After
reading the bulletin board here it is obvious that Apple is
outageously and unbelievably misinformed. I was lucky to have
encountered the information BEFORE installation and to have pursued
it even after someone at Apple told me I had nothing to worry about.
Someone at Symantec should clue Apple in so more people will not live
to regret the years they enthusiastically supported Disk Doubler.
It's some consolation that DD Expand will solve the problem (I'm
taking that on faith at this point). I still have a compelling need
for compression software. Are there plans to develop an upgrade to
Disk Doubler that is OS 8 compatible or is everyone going to use
Stuffit from now on?
Thank you for your response.

Hello Bridget O'Brien,
Norton DiskDoubler Pro is incompatible with and unsupported under OS
8.x. We have no plans to make changes to NDD Pro that will alter or
increase the existing, limited functionality. We do not recommend
running NDD Pro with OS 8.x and we do not provide support for the
configuration.
Sincerely,
