Hi,
I like to know if Norton DiskLock had problems with the new G3
Motherboards. I have this problem, i had 3 G3, and the software works
on two of them, but not on the newer. The only difference is the
motherboard part number. I tried switching hard disks, but the same
computer still doesn´t work ( and the other work fine, so the
software is installed fine)
Thanks

Yes, there have been reports of various problems with the newer G3
machines. Aside from the issues involving HFS+ (Disklock is not
compatible with the extended format), there are some configurations that
will not lock down properly. Symptoms sometimes include a gray screen
on restart (after protecting the drive); when the computer is forced to
restart, it will often boot up without a Disklock prompt. However, the
drive still show as protected in the Disklock application.
At this point, we don't have a solution for this problem. If you need
security on this machine immediately, you might want to try out one of
our competitors. Hopefully, there will be a new version of Disklock by
the end of 1998.
Let me know if you have further questions.

Lew:
If your Powerbook G3 is formatted as HFS+ (a new formatting protocol available
under OS 8.1), you will not be able to protect it with Disklock, as it is incompatible.
If it is an HFS Standard drive, Disklock may work for you. Unfortunately,
even some of those drives are turning out to be problematic.
In short, I can't honestly recommend you install Disklock on your G3 Powerbook
at this time. You'd probably be better off waiting until Disklock is updated
(hopefully by the end of the year) or switching to a product from one of our competitors.
