Configuration Information:
Version: 4.0
Operating system: System 8.1

I ultimately want to put a lock on a folder. But, i was told to first
protect the hard drive in the directions of norton disk lock.
however when i do this i get an error. The very first time i
received the error it said. (paraphrased)"there is not enough memory
in the first gigabyte of hard drive space, try removing some files"
didn't know how to do that.. " but every time i try the option
"Protect hard drive" i get the error message "Hard drive could not
complete the command because an error occured" -109

so next step.. I wrote a message in the aol symantec area and had
some return it and say that if i had norton utilities 3.5.2 or later
i could use speed disk to optimize so there is free space at the
begginning of the drive.

so i purchased norton utilities 4.0 and I don't see an option to open
free space at the beginning of the drive.

I have a 6500 mac.. running 8.1
Please help,
thanks..

The "not enough free space..." error is not too difficult to solve, and
the advice you got is on the right track.

Try optimizing the drive with Speed Disk. If, after doing so, you still
get the same error, temporarily remove a large application from the
drive (like Adobe Photoshop, Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Word).
This will free up a large block of contiguous space on the drive, and
you should then be able to protect the disk with Disklock. At that
point, copy the application you temporarily moved off the drive back on
to it, and everything should be fine.

This should solve the problem; let me know if it does not or if you have
further questions.
