Configuration Information:
Version: 4.0.3
Operating system: System 8.1

Thanks for your prompt response... I appreciate it! Your advise did
in fact work just fine: Using the suggested command, I restarted the
computer using my Mac OS 8.0 CD (thats all I have...). The computer
accepted that. I than loaded my "modified" DiskLock Emergency Disk
which came up with a window "Searching for DiskLock .... Rescan SCSI
bus" (ID 0) which took a while to complete. It did find the relevant
DiskLock file after all and I was able to enter my password. The hard
drive appeared as well.

Since I could now access the hard drive, I ran "Drive Set-up 1.5" to
reinstall a new driver and "Disk First Aid 8.2" to further repair the
hard drive before restarting (Disk First Aid didn't find any
problem)... Restart... Rebuilt Desktop.... no problem!

I also ran Norton DiskDoctor later on. It only came up with some
minor problems (icons not showing properly, etc.).

Thanks again for the prompt advise. Would further appreciate your
advise, which updated versions of Norton DiskDoctor, AntiVirus,
DiskLock and Suitcase I should have to avoid further "fiddling" with
Emergency Disks/ CDs... that I don't have in the first place since
some of the software was downloaded from your website and the rest
endlessly updated on the Internet. E.g. the SAM and Suitcase
versions I presently use were downloded from your web site, so I
don't have any floppies/CDs to work with. Here a list of what I am
presently using:

Norton Utilities 3.5.2 (bought in Europe,
Upgrades downloaded)
Symantec AntiVirus 4.5.3 (downloaded from your
website)
Norton DiskLock 4.0.3 (bought in Canada)
Norton Suitcase 3.0.2 (downloaded from your
website)

Best regards

Arne:

As far as emergency disks go, generally speaking, you don't need them as long
as you have a cd you can boot from (e.g. an Apple System Software disk).

Each of the products listed above (except Suitcase, which would not be
involved in an emergency situation) can be used/launched from any other volume
(floppy, zip, jaz, ext. drive, etc.) while booted from a system cd.

This is probably the best way to go; depending on what kind of machine you
have (and which product you are talking about), it may be the only way to go.
For example NUM 3.5.x will not boot some newer G3 machines; you need NUM 4.0
for that.

However, I do recommend that you make backup copies of all the software that
you have downloaded, just in case your drive ever becomes unreadable or
inaccessible for any reason.

I hope this answers your questions.
