I just bought a new Power Mac G3 / 300mhg computer running OS 8.1
with system enabler 777 v 1.0. I have installed disklock v 4.0.2.
Much to my dismay it will not lock the disk. I get an error message
when I try to protect the disk. Help! What do I do to get my computer
locked???
Thanks
Hello Fly: In all liklihood, your new G3 came HFS+ formatted; to
confirm, single click on the HD icon and select Get Info from the
File menu; if the second line of the box says Mac OS Extended, then
you will NOT be able to use DiskLock with your computer. If it says
Mac OS Standard, download and apply the 4.03 for workstation updater
from the following link:
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/files/disklockmac/disklock_version_4
x_for_macintosh.html
Please read ALL included Read Me files and properly back-up ALL data
prior to running the updater and using the newly updated software.
Also, please reboot with ALL extensions disabled prior to running the
updater too (this is accomplished by pressing Shift immediately after
selecting Restart from the Special Menu).

So if it is Mac OS Extended is there a way to reformat the disk? or
do we return the product? or is there a product coming out in the
future that will fix this?

Hello Stephen Kohen,
To answer your questions in order:
1. Backup your drive and restart from your G3 CD. Select your hard drive
then go to the Special menu and select Erase Disk. Mac OS Standard is the
default so just hit the Erase button. Restore your backup and your ready
to go.
2. If you purchased DiskLock in the last 60 days, you can return it for
your money back.
3. We are looking into a solution for HFS+ drives.
Sincerely,

Hello Aaron Bickford,
If you already have 4.03, the 4.03 updater will give you that error message. There is no need to update.

Hello Aaron Bickford,
Actually what I was saying was that you were getting the error you were getting because you were trying to
update an already updated version. This has nothing to do with whether DiskLock will protect the drive or
not. Could you give me a little more detail about you start up problems so I can attempt to fix them? Just as
a bit of forewarning: some of the later models of G3 (including the iMac and All-in-one) are not currently
supported by DiskLock.
Sincerely,

Hello Aaron,
Judging from the description of the issue at hand, I would say that you have a 2nd (possibly 3rd) generation G3
motherboard. What you describes does happen on occasion with these motherboards. At this time, there is no work
around for these motherboards. We are looking at the situation and working towards a solution for this, but at
this time I have no ETA on this.

Dito.
I am experiencing the same trouble on a g3 with an ATA drive.
the drive came from the factory with hsf+, I tried to install
disklock 403 but encountered the hsf+ issue. I reformated and tried
again this time getting the grey screen which required a forced
restart. Setting the extensions manager to a very minimal set
produced the same results. The disk lock was installed with
extensions off( shift key).
the drive is a 4GB ATA (ATA Bus 0 Dev 0,v3.10).vendor WDC AC24300L.
revision # 08.09L08.
the computer is a 266mhz with enabler 777 v1.0, 64 MB ram. running os
8.1. It has a built in zip and 10/100 ethernet(from apple).I'm to
lazy to find the serial number...but if it helps...
Looking forward to a solution.

This is a known issue which at this time has no solution. We are aware of it, but there is no workaround or patch
as yet.
If you desperately need security protection at this time, I'd have to recommend trying a product from one of our
competitors.
Let me know if you have further questions.
