Hi Sal,
When using Q&A for DOS any version, the printer must contain the font in
the form of an internal font, a cartridge font, or a font that is
downloaded into the printers memory. If you look in the printer manual for
the internal fonts or do a self test on the printer to get the list of
internal fonts, you will at least know what you have to work with. Q&A for
DOS only contains the description of these fonts. If the printer is HP2P
compatible that is the driver to use. The current drivers are dated
9-20-93 and they do not contain the NEC model 860 Laserjet. There are font
packages that can be downloaded if you need those fonts, however they do
take up printer memory and they have to be reloaded each time the printer
is turned off.
Another option would include purchasing the cross-grade to Q&A for Windows.
This would give you all the printer drivers that Windows can use and you
can use the DOS and Windows versions at the same time even on the same
machine, they are interoperable. The cross-grade can be purchase by
calling Customer Service at 800-441-7234 and the part number is
01-00-00542.
Hope you are having a great day!
