Hi John,

Q&A does not assign security to the databases unless someone goes into the
security area and sets it up. There is a possibility that you used to have
a macro that ran when the program was loaded to tell Q&A what your security
information is, this is on the DOS side. On the Windows side there are
some preference settings under File Menu, preferences, then the Database
icon, which has a spot for the default User ID and Password. If your files
were secured with the same information and either of these 2 situations
applied, it could very well appear as the databases being unsecured. If
you still have the old laptop check those settings and apply them to the
new machine.

If this database was accidentally protected, then the password assigned to
it may simply be the default setting, which is simply the word: "password"
. So if you think you may know what User ID may be assigned, then try
using the word "password" for the password.

If that does not work, Symantec does have a Q&A Security Removal Service
where we can extract the User ID and password from the database so we can
then tell you what it is and you can access the database again. If you
would like to get information about this service, and how to contact our
staff to send in the database so we can do this for you, then please go to
this web page at:

http://service.symantec.com/recovery/qa_pw/pw_index.html

and our staff will be glad to help you out in regaining access to your
database again. Simply follow the instructions on this web page to make
sure you send in all the necessary information to us so we can provide this
service for you.

Hope you are having a great day!
