Boardroom Radio is a rapidly expanding online company, providing
streaming financial media to thousands of users every day. We are
founding an in-house development team, and we are seeking an
experienced, highly capable, and enthusiastic Senior PHP Developer /
Team Lead to form the core of this team.
As an online company, we are passionate about utilising the latest
emerging technologies to reach the widest audience possible. We
recognise the diverse mix of qualities and skills required to succeed
as a modern web developer, and will pull out all stops to employ the
right person for this position.
Key Responsibilities
* Work closely with in-house project managers and media producers to
ensure a consistent user/customer experience.
* Determine our strategy for tackling future media technologies
(mobile devices, HTML5) and implement solutions based on this
strategy.
* Identify areas of improvement within the website and within our
technical processes.
* Determine the required qualities for future team members, and assist
in the hiring process.
Essential Capabilities
* 5+ years industry experience. Experience working in team lead or
senior development roles beneficial.
* Significant experience with PHP, specifically OOP PHP5. Experience
with Symfony or another PHP framework is highly beneficial.
* Relational database management and optimisation experience. MySQL is
of specific interest.
* Working knowledge of (X)HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with an emphasis
on W3C standards and awareness of accessibility and usability best
practices.
* Working knowledge of Linux server administration and Apache
configurations.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be
working directly with the management and the media production team on
a day-to-day basis.
* A fearless attitude towards challenges – 'yes it can be done' or
'another solution is...'
* Passion for your craft. A high attention to detail and pride in your
work is essential.
Additional Capabilities
* Formal qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology,
or related fields.
* Any experience with media delivery systems (Adobe Flash Media
Server, streaming technologies, etc) beneficial.
* A passion for proven development processes. We want test driven
development. We want automatic deployment. We want detailed issue
tracking.
* An eye for detail and a basic understanding of design principles.
* A well-worn copy of "The Pragmatic Programmer".
