As Alan said in another email

we need a new venue. Any suggestions welcome or just an area you
prefer it to be in i.e. CBD

Please let me know.

Hi Mark,

Greets from Sydney.pm ;).

Since there will likely be a few user groups affected by Squire's
decision to charge, perhaps we should try find a usergroup-friendly
venue that might work for all of us? The collective patronage $ might
be of more interest than each of us approaching with our own group
needs .. assuming they're of a similar nature (preferably free function
room in CBD w/ projector available once a month, happy to pay for food
and grog).

Several groups in Melbourne seem to have pooled their efforts with the
"Open Source Developer's Club" (http://osdc.com.au/osdclub/). Perhaps
Sydney could use something similar ;).

FWIW, there's a social catchup for Sydney.pm at Lord Nelson in the
Rocks from 6pm next Tues (10 Jan) if anyone would like to join us (map:
http://www.lordnelson.com.au/2.html). Email me if you need more
details on who/what to look for.

Cheers,
Stephen

Yep that's what we are looking for but with cheaper beer :-). There
were many "geek" groups that used the James Squire so discovery of
something similar would attract these groups as well.

I am also interested in something similar to OSDClub, as there are
lots of common topics that would interest all of us.

How about the Rose hotel on Cleveland St near City Rd?

I don't know if they charge for a room but the main reason I suggest it
is that
it's opposite the University of Sydney's new School of IT building. The
new building
will be complete in a few months and will have fantastic facilities,
including meetings rooms,
a small lecture theatre, wifi access etc. The School of IT wants to
encourage technical
groups to make use of the facilities for meetings (no charge). After
the technical
meeting you can adjourn to the Rose.

Sounds interesting. Like the free and near pub features :-) Also looks
like about 1 km from Central & Redfern stations. Anyone been to the
Rose Hotel? or do I for the good of the group need to sample the
ambience and beer before using it as a location.

Of course, any other suggestions will be considered. Being North
SYdney based I have little knowledge of possible locations in CBD.

1km from Central sounds better than 1km from Redfern :)

I would be willing - for the good of the group - to assist you in this
endeavour.
