At the last meeting Mark suggested that we discuss meeting options on
this list. So here's my stab.
I'm thinking that we should go for a 'two tier' approach. Formal
meetings with presentations are useful but hard work to organise and
the information flow is fairly one way. I think we should carry on
having them, but perhaps only a few a year (say 2 or 3?). I'm thinking
that the next one should be some time in November so that people not
going to OSDC [1] this year can get a preview of the presentations
being given by those that are.
But that shouldn't stop us getting together more regularly. I'm
suggesting a social get together (with beer, naturally) but in a less
structured form. Basically we just agree on a night and gather
together in a pub in the CBD or North Sydney for a little social
intercourse. If laptops are produced and code snippets examined then
all well and good. The purpose should just be together with like
minded folks and chew the technology fat. As a first attempt how about
Tuesday the 5th of Thursday the 7th of September? Has anyone got a
nice pub they would recommend for a venue?
We could also benefit from broadening the audience. I'm thinking of
something like the London 2.0 events [1] that combine those with an
interest in Java, Python, Ruby, and just about anything else. I know
that various members of the group have had contacts with PHP and Perl
groups in Sydney and maybe they (or some other technology focussed
group) already have something like this running.
What do you all think?

I am also interested in broadening the circle of geeks. If we have
meetings like the London group does that mean we will get interviewed
by drunken M$ employees.

So count me in for either the Tuesday or Thursday next month.

Dylan,
The point of this pub meetings is that we *don't* have a projector or
formal presentations. Although I'm sure Mark would like to take you up
on your kind offer for the next 'presentation' meeting.
Anyone got a preference for Tuesday (the 5th) or Thursday (the 7th)?
Anyone got a suggestion for a venue?
Me! Thursday. Tuesday is possible though less convenient.
Alan.

I really would like to hear the talk about AGX Dylan offered (after
September). Are there any other plone developers in this user group?

Deal!
So far, either the 5th or the 7th look good. The more advanced
warning, though, the better. :)

Garth.
PS: Mac Pro on the way, so I'll have a chance to go through all that
universal distribution py2app/bundlebuilder pain! Whee!
Damn your shiny new toys.
OK, Thursday the 7th of September it is then. Venue TBD, if anyone has
any suggestions just put them in a reply to this message.
We are looking for somewhere probably in the CBD that will accomodate
a few of us and more importantly, bearing in mind that it's a Thursday
night, doesn't spark up the loud young people's music too early.
Tell your friends. Or even random people you meet in the street.
The venue has now been booked - it is the bar of the Grace Hotel on
the corner of King and Clarence streets in the CBD. A table has been
booked for 6:30pm.
Please spread the word far and wide, and I'll see you there.
Oh, and to those hungry for knowledge the hotel has a web site here;
We're in the bar on the mezzanine level. Enter at the corner of York
and King and go up the stairs, where you will find the Neo bar. There
is one group in the corner, while we have officially booked the "rest
of bar".
See you next Thursday,
