Greetings,
this is Simone Brunozzi, Amazon Web Services Technology Evangelist for
APAC.
This is my first message in this group, and I hope I don't break any
rules if I write on behalf of my company.

I will be visiting Sydney for a few days, and I have spots available
on May 21st, May 24th, May 27th; therefore, I'd be happy to come visit
you and give a seminar on Amazon Web Services: http://aws.amazon.com.
I can also provide credits (USD 25 each) for students and staff
members, to try out AWS without paying from your own pocket.
In any case, even if we can't make an official meeting, I'd be happy
to meet with individual people interested in learning more about
Amazon Web Services: you can reciprocate by teaching me something
about Sydney, since this is my first visit ever!

If you are interested, please email me at sim...@amazon.com and we
can discuss the logistic details.
At Universities or technical user groups, I typically run a 60-90
minutes presentation which includes a demo/workshop.
I usually focus on the AWS part, up to the creation of clusters of
servers able to run code; at that point, you are surely able to
developer far better code than I do :)

I am also looking for speaking opportunities at local Universities; if
you are a student or a staff member, I'd be happy to discuss this with
you.

Thanks, and hope to hear back from you soon!

Simone

That's three times I've received this spam now, via various open source groups.

As a reminder to sypy members, you can report this spam at
http://www.acma.gov.au/interforms/spam_complaint_email.asp - ACMA have
much more power to prevent this from happening again than you do.

Simone, you might like to have a read of ACMA's guide to ensuring you
don't spam, at http://acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_310299. Don't
worry too much about the finer details though - ACMA will be in touch
with you shortly to give you more information about your obligations,
and the penalties they are able to apply to you under Australian law.

Hi James,
from your comment, it seems that my emails did upset you.
Frankly, I was not aware of the ACMA rules.
If you received this email three times, it's because I sent it to different user groups in Australia and/or Sydney.
If you or other members of this mailing list have been disturbed by it and want to report it at the ACMA website, I'll face the consequences.
In any case, I would like to apologize to the mailing list members if I was not aware of specific rules that are applied in Australia.
I thought that my proposal would be interesting, as it usually have been in Europe, but evidently I was wrong.

Regards,

Simone

Hi Simone,

Frankly I don't know what's with the animosity this guy hurled your
way. I mean, how often does good old Australia get shown some tech
love? I for one would welcome, with open arms, the chance to meet and
talk to you about AWS.

Unfortunately, I will be in Tokyo during that period.

I just found out that we're speaking at the same conference --
Neoedge's Mobile Cloud Computing Asia. Just remembered vaguely that
"some guy" from Amazon will be there, just looked it up and there you
are! :)
So, I'll probably see you there, and enjoy your time in Sydney. If you
ever drop by earlier (before 20th) or later (after 30th May), do let
me know.

Simone

frankly I am a bit surprised about the acma rules. I agree with
wil. I certainly would be interested in this. Can you send me more
info on this. Also you may be interested in sending an email to the
siliconbeach group which is more focussed around entrepreneurship and
this would be a welcome topic there if not already known.

Cheers
Sri

FWIW, I'd be interested in attending a talk on AWS.

Although clearly the dates don't fit with the usual sypy schedule.

Thanks, Wil and Sri,
I fully understand James' point of view, but I'm also glad to see that my message has resulted useful or interesting for some of you, at least. My intention was not to spam the list, but to catch up with some of you guys during my stay in Australia :)

Wil, I'll be happy to meet you in Singapore on July 14th/15th; if you're new to Singapore, we can also catch up after the conference for a beer at Boat Quay :) (feel free to email me in private: sim...@amazon.com)
Sri, thanks for the suggestion: I'll reach out to the siliconbeach group right away.

It seems that there's some interest in meeting with me after all: I'd say that we should simply pick a location (bar, or such) downtown Sydney, and decide when to meet there. We can have an informal session, without boring slides or these kind of things, and simply do an intense Q&A over drinks. We could use something like meetup.com, amiando.com or similar to arrange for the event.
Anyone would like to be the primary point of contact for this? Since I don't know Sydney at all, I'd gladly accept suggestions on the best place to meet (nice and quiet), and what day. I'm available in Sydney on:
May 21st, afternoon (after 5pm) or evening;
May 22nd or 23rd only if no other dates are available;
May 27th, day or evening;
Thanks guys, appreciate any help!

Cheers,

Simone

After thinking about this yesterday, I've decided I was wrong to be
upset by this particular email.

It's note entirely on-topic for the list, but it's close enough that's
relevant and interesting to most people on the list.

I apologize for my outburst about this particular mail.

No, the other two emails I received were to addresses that were
clearly not user groups - one was to a "president@" address, and one
to a "webmaster@" address.

James,
no worries at all :)

Ah, I see: in fact, I emailed the president of the local group to ask him the same thing; I didn't know it was the same person.
I think that in this case, receiving three emails in a row could justify your outburst, especially before realizing they were sent to you by coincidence :)
Anyway, case closed, and I hope we'll meet during my stay in Australia.

Cheers,

Simone
