So when I run the install for the openni packages I get the below error.
sudo apt-get install -f ros-groovy-openni-camera ros-groovy-openni-launch
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 ros-groovy-openni-camera : Depends: libboost-thread1.46.1 (>= 1.46.1-1) but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Tried to install libboost (boost_1_53_0) with the thread library and ran .g2 but still no joy. Am I missing something? All I want to do is play around with the Xtion Pro Live and see what my robot sees!

Cheers,

Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

Interesting problem. I know they're doing a bit of migrating at the moment with the packages, and a few people are complaining stuff has broken, but I'm not sure what the cause is.

I'd suggest trying http://answers.ros.org/ and see if anyone's come across something similar.

Cheers,
Gavin

Put my problem up on answers but still no replies. Searching around I can't really see if other people are having the same issue...

OK, I just figured it out myself. Started going through the installation from the start just to check over if I missed anything. So the answer makes me want to go slap myself. Us Germans actually have a word for people like me... backpfeifengesicht (face that needs slapping!) Here is what I did wrong.

So the documentation for installation says for this distro run this command, for that distro run this command... my command wasn't listed and because it was late when I first installed ROS I just chose the last one assuming it would be the latest... well it appears they don't update their wiki very often... I set up my repositories to point to oeneric and the version of ubuntu I had installed was... quantal... ladies and gentlemen... my answer.

Fixed the apt repo to point to quantal and whoila, my ros-groovy-openni-* packages install!

Now I'm going to go see the results!
