UHF base station radio gear - save it from ewaste?

Hi folks,

I figure there may be some HAMs on the list.

My work has a pallet of twenty-something-year-old UHF (400MHz UHF licensed band) radio gear from a base station & repeater site.

Of particular note for reuse are some high power cavity filters, isolators, combiners, splitters, etc.

See photo.

There may also be some Motorola Quantar base stations/repeaters, which I don’t have much info about, and some mystery analogue radio channel cards in rack frames.

Please let me know if you’d be interested in this gear and able to collect it from Sydney CBD, so I can stop it from going in the skip.

Hi Sophie,

I have forwarded to a friend who is involved in CREST (the CB related volunteer comms organisation) and WICEN (the Ham related VRA volunteer communications squad).  Quantars are P25 (Project 25 / APCO 25) digital voice plus FM voice radios.  Both have access to a range of licensed frequencies.

Nice find, Sophie.

Those cans look like they were on the old Police Frequencies 458MHz.

I see a rack of comparators as well - they take audio in on phone lines from other receivers do a SiNad (Signal to Noise and Distortion) comparison and put the cleanest signal back out on the repeaters.

I cut my radio teeth on that gear.
