Hello,

I have a Porlex hand ginder for grinding coffee beans.
It works well, and get lot's of use.

However, the handle has become quite loose, and for some reason they opted to use a pentagon on the shaft.

Here's a picture.

What I would like to have is a socket for the shaft on a standard hex scredriver bit.
So I can use a small elective screwdriver.

I cannot find anywhere which sells this type of item.
Any ideas?

Regards

Matt

I have one of those too. Try a ring socket. Mine's at work so I
can't measure it to tell you the right size.

the other option is a little jacobs chuck. Jaycar sells one
-http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=TD2010 - but I don't know
if it goes big enough.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-4-ADAPT-A-DRIVE-CHUCK-AND-KEY-SET-JACOB-30248-CHUCK-BRAND-NEW-/261247051683
is big enough but needs a chuck key. I think dremel makes one as
well, but I'm not sure what shank it has.

(as an aside, searching for jacobs chuck on ebay brings up a used
synthes mini fragment set. who buys orthopaedic surgical instruments
second hand on ebay?)

Yep, I have one of the small chucks, and it does not quite fit.
In a moment of optimism, I printed a hex bolthead with a penta hole in the middle, and use a hex socket set.
Nope, the abs just mashed up and I spent 15 min digging it out.  hey ho.

How about laser cut? 6mm acrylic, two layers, bring it out to like a
12.7mm hex bolt head. then you can use a 1/2" socket.

Some interesting possibilities come to mind using piano wire - say 0.040" or 0.062".

Cut a set of "pins" and embed these into a print to create a hard contact surface with the shaft.

The "Metrinch" style spanners (and others) use similar shapes to move the contact point on nuts/bolts away from the corners to reduce damage and to accommodate a range of sizes with a single tool.

I have one of these too. I just use a cordless drill, the 3-jaw chuck does work fine on the pentagonal shaft.

Could you adapt a socket head bolt?  I'm quite sure you could source the right size.

You could epoxy that into an abs shaft that would fit into your drill/driver or you could find something in steel that the thread on the other end of the bolt would fit into.

Good luck with that.

The other Matt.
