Hi!

Just wanted to let you know that the little optiplex 5060 connected to the laser is complaining of a, uh, missing harddisk / no bootable devices found (see photos). It was stuck on the first screen when I came in a half-hour ago; no idea how long it’s been like this.

so, i guess take this as general advisement that the laser is possibly down for tuesday night

Thanks,
Robin

I took a photo of the drive itself. Little 80mm gen4 m2. It looks fine, I reseated it, no change in behaviour.

Internals are otherwise clean, no dust, nothing obviously wrong.  Nothing stands out. I don't have any spare parts to test if it's the drive itself or the m2 port though :(

It seems like it can take sata4 drives, but it's also missing the internal blue caddy for it.

It's a Dell OptiPlex 5060 Micro, Service tag 7CDZVV2

I manage systems with lots of these drives, that error normally means the disk is bad. I have a replacement m.2 sata that can go in but have been so busy I haven’t gotten in recently.

I can also try to rescue data from the old disk but it’s likely fully cooked.

i guess now would be the second-best time to ask about config + licence + software backups for the laser setup, eh

(Who, if anyone, took on maintenance of the PC after it was generously donated and set up? Also please pardon me if this is a chat already going on somewhere other than the mailing list.)

Jess and myself have replaced the drive in the machine and reinstalled windows + lightburn + basic software.

We are currently on Lightburn 1.3.01.
There are a lot of cool things that have been released in newer versions if people are interested in putting money towards renewing the license.

Bad news, it’s broken again. Same error, same result from diagnostics, persists after reboot, etc.

It was confirmed working when I left yesterday at ~4:30pm; I locked the machine as usual, leaving it running, and closed up the space.

I don’t have time to take it apart etc today, so please consider this an FYI for Saturday.

If it’s happened again it seems like perhaps a motherboard issue instead, since the disk just got replaced. There are other rarely used mini PCs upstairs that could be borrowed for now

Damn this sucks! I was just thinking about all the cool things I could laser print.

Definitely agree Sophie. Highly suspect two drives both suffered a HD error; maybe we can isolate the HD error to the m.2 drives vs the board vs sata port? Will the m.2 drives load on another board and environment?

Laser PC is working again.
I unplugged everything from it except for the screen and the power and was able to boot into windows fine.
I've plugged in only the stuff critical for making the Laser PC work for now.
