Hey guys
Anybody interested in helping me with ideas or construction of a 1RU pull out monitor?
These are plenty in existence, but strangely expensive at $700-2000?
My current thinking is I'll pickup a 1RU draw, such as this one
Tecmojo 1U Rack Drawer,Rack Mount Drawer for 19in Network Equipment/Server/AV Rack or Cabinet Enclosure,Sliding and Lockable Server Rack Drawer - Load-Bearing 22lb (10kg),with Cable Management Holes

Then disassemble, place a cutout ? At the back of the draw for power / HDMI passthrough to panel mount connectors on the back of the unit, maybe a cable chain to keep them from getting pinched ?
Then some kind of hinge to hold either a laptop panel? Or a portable monitor (leaning towards something diy as the portable monitors have side mounted connectors and this will look bad / reduce the possible size of display)
Also thinking it would be good to remove the handle from the front? Or the whole front panel? And attach the handle to the top of the monitor so it can be a single pull out and lift up motion?
I would love some ideas for the hinge, something to prop it up, maybe magnets? How to keep cuts clean and not sharp, etc :)
Here's some examples of commercial products
Thanks makers !
