Hello,

I recently purchased four sheets of plywood (1220 × 810 × 3mm) from Bunnings and also bought a mini saw from Mitre 10. However, I found that cutting them precisely is more difficult than I expected.

I am hoping to use the tools at your workshop and receive some guidance or assistance to cut the pieces accurately.

Here are the sizes I need:

  • 1210 × 53 × 3mm (4 pieces)

  • 1011 × 11 × 3mm (7 pieces)

  • 503 × 11 × 3mm (7 pieces)

  • 96 × 11 × 3mm (9 pieces)

  • 97 × 11 × 3mm (9 pieces)

  • 89 × 11 × 3mm (54 pieces)

  • 804 × 53 × 3mm (4 pieces)

  • 804 × 11 × 3mm (1 piece)

Would it be possible for me to come in and use the workshop for this project?
Please let me know if there are any membership requirements, safety inductions, or fees involved.

Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to your reply.

Kind regards,
Seohye Moon

Hi!

Both the dust collection setup and work area aren’t *really* suited to do this kind of thing safely (with a power saw, particularly). There’s a large laser cutter that might help, but I think we need to check the bed size to see if it’d fit.

You’re welcome to come and say hi and check the vibe just in case! We’ll be open today in case that suits.

Kind regards,
Robin Howard

Update: the laser cutter bed is 900 x 1300mm, give or take a smidge. (Someone’s not put the tape measure back so I can’t give you a more accurate answer, pardon.)

I recommend double-checking the actual size of the project boards from bunnings.  From personal experience  I know they're sometimes off by up to 10mm.  Your longest cut might come extremely close to the edges!

Additionally, a 1000+x11mm cut of plywood will warp pretty dramatically.  I've done something similar and it's not particularly stable.  It depends on what your project is though, that may not matter!

Your list of cuts will fit easily on one of the project boards for the laser cutter, I've attached an example.
