Hey all,

First up, a quick reminder that the FedOne install fest is on this thursday night @ the Sydney Googleplex. The goal of the night is to get the FedOne source installed on everyone's laptop, go scouting through the code base, and discuss approaches for implementing things like conversation persistence and front ends. We have James Purser on the mic to walk us through.

James Purser's Blog, with WRS cheatsheets: http://jamespurser.com.au/

Secondly, for those interested in the implementation of the HTML5 Wave Client front end, the next talk at SJUG is the go to place.

Dhanji R. Prasanna: Guice, GWT and other goodies used when building Google Wave
Where: Atlassian HQ, 173-185 Sussex St, Sydney, round the back.
When: 6:30pm Thursday, August 20th

Given Dhanji's talk, I've amended the forward plan to move the client focus part of the night of the September the 10th talk from GWT to Robots and Gadgets. The presentation and/or open forum for the business focus is still on the cards as the opener, however. =)

As always, if you have any questions, just throw me an email.

Hey all,

I'd just like to add a few things as a bit of an addendum to what
Brett has already posted. Firstly, I'd like to add that from Google,
Anthony Baxter, Jochen Bekmann and I will be on-hand to provide
assistance throughout the night.

Secondly, while James will be covering the complete installation of
the reference code on a laptop, there are a couple of different
avenues for installing and working with the Federation code base that
I'd like to discuss. While you don't need to do anything now, you
might just want to think about your options before coming along.

If you have access to a physical (or virtual) colocated box out there
on the internet, you might want to install the code there instead of
your laptop as it will allow you to actually federate with other wave
servers. You'll also have to update your DNS records to properly
indicate that you're now hosting a Wave server.

If you're not keen to set up the server yourself, but would like to
hack at the reference client (which is backed onto a non-standard
client/server protocol), we are considering providing access to a
server port or two that you can hit at. There's an absolutely huge
scope for front-end work that just revolves around modifying the
client code we've released. This can expand into web servers,
graphical clients, or even clients that leverage different types
(other than chat/documents) of data within Wave.

Cheers,

Sam Thorogood

Hi Brett and all,

I've attached PDF versions of the How Tos I wrote just in case we can't
get access to the intarwebs.

Brett, you might want to stick a copy on the GWSUG site as well.

Hi;

Would it be possible to provide the virtualbox or vmware diskimage of  the development  environment so everyone would have the same development platform to play with.

Regards

Phon,

That's a good idea. One I wish i'd thought of last weekend. I'll see how I go this weekend. Where can we host VM images?

Anyways, James' pdfs are up on the web at:

Hello Brett
I didn't bring my laptop today, is it that there's not much point for me to come tonight?
Cheers

Heya Ren,

If you want to buddy up with someone, you can do go through the install procedure as a team exercise =)

There is a fair amount of conceptual stuff in understanding what goes where, and the googlers we have on hand tonight are the right people to ask questions of.

I've gotten about half way through James' cheatsheets for installing the WRS on windows, but the fun stuff is figuring out how to start up the WRS server and client from within my eclipse environment. That's my stretch goal for tonight, murphy willing.
