From the Focus and Fury forums. People are reporting the following is legit.

On the Skorne stuff, let me just say, OMFGBBQWOW!!!! So much AD, and a legit warbeast with a gun! Speed 3 is a bit weird, but meh. People are also going crazy about Keltarii with Parry, Reform, Reach, CMA and Blade Shield, all on a 5/8 cost unit.

Don't hate Xerxis theme force either, to be honest. Looks fun.

Nick.

I think that's about that for this book. Anything I miss or have incorrect I'll try to fix when I can.

Gatorman battle Engine is the strongest Battle Engine in the game now and probably the most important release in this book.

Other factions are the joke, Gators are the Punchline.

I loved the Mammoth (still do) and a few other things were cool in Gargantuans, but finally getting like 3 AD options as a Skorne player is super exciting. Some warlocks potentially going troop-less thanks to Warbeast packs (which can be revived and Stay Death'd) is an interesting angle too. I like that pretty much everything we got is new and different for Skorne.

Competition-wise, I guess we'll see. I remember people poo-pooing the Mammoth until Watt showed how epic it can be. Combos and value can take time to shake out.

Definitely think the Ardus have potential.

Nick.

I'm still waiting for the Grolar, keep calm!

Anyway,

The important thing about the Skorne Beast Back is that you can take them with Zaadesh and Zaal, Lets say you enrage one of them, the result is this:

Pow 10 base + 3 other beasts in melee with the target( +3), Gang from Zaadesh (+2) + 1 of them is enraged (+2), +Last Stand + Feat =

3 Pow 15 Weapon master attacks with feat extra dice (expected P+S + Dice roll = 29)
1 Pow 17 Weapon master attacks with feat extra dice (expected P+S + Dice roll = 31)

Fun!

The Ardus are interesting. The Ranged Bug is weird, mainly because I prefer my Gun-Beasts to be able to do melee when they don't have specific ways to boost their ranged offensive output to game-winning levels (ie. Spitters with Barny). The Gun Ardus has the Dubious honour of being the lowest melee threat in the game at 6" on the charge. I like the Ardus with a eXerxis gunline (Poison + Boost + Signs = fun), The Melee one is cool, Its essentially going to be whether you think Carapace and Advance deploy is worth it over a Bronzeback or Gladiator. Remember that Pull helps increase threat for other models in your army.

Death Wolves will be hard to use, but when used well they will be one of the toughest character units in the game. Being able to just sit there and tank attacks by spending Heart Tokens is sweet with a 14-14 statline. Their melee damage is below other character units, but the idea is to get them stuck into an enemy unit, kill a few guys, tank the attacks back through good defences and Heart Tokens, then spend heart tokens to make more attacks to kill models, getting you heart tokens for defence. The issue is essentially getting the tokens, it sucks but its a tradeof piece.

Legion players are complaining about Zuriel. They are idiots. Mweh, Pow 16 isn't enough for a faction with a Pow boost on nearly every caster in their faction, while they also bring some of the best anti-infantry tech in the game on a single beast. He's also untyped while causing continuous fire. eLylyth likes this guy a lot if you want to make not the uber-kill skew list. Pincushion + those Sprays. PP *really* doesn't like single wound Infantry.

Fuck I love the troll releases.

Highwaymen are interesting until you put them in context. eGrim with Feat and Mortality = unit makes 20 Rat 9 Pow 12 attacks ignoring tough at 12" range. Fun. Grissel 1 gives them a Calamity Build with Hoof it to escape. They can also just be taken with Gunnbjorn and make 2 Pow 20's or 4 Pow 15's at 12" range with him. The queen is Calandra, Take highwaymen with the Solo, Opportunist gives Boosted attack and Damage rolls in the Back Arc. Calandra has Befuddle and her feat. So she feats, befuddles a heavy, It turns around, you kill it from 8" away with Gunshots.

The Fire Eaters are awesome for style points. The difficulty will be setting them on fire without killing them. I think the best way will be to Put the Pyg between the 2 trollkin and shoot it with a Pyre troll, you then get both on fire while the Pow 6's shouldn't hurt you. You then get a bunch of fully boosted Fire Sprays. Hilarious. Fantastic unit to clear off your frontline, pretty cheap for what you get (because they hurt/kill themselves). Pretty good with the new Troll Lesser Warlock.

 MAXIMUS:

Let me paint you a picture. Maximus is a Mat 8 Doom Reaver with Unyielding. Seems a little uninspiring. Well, take him with Carver, His feat gives him an extra damage die (so Pow 12 weapon master with an extra damage die) and overtake (when he kills a model, he moves 1" before making the next model). He's also immune to spells!...but not animi cast from a beast, so I can give him Sprint.

So I have a 2 point model with a near infinite amount of attacks as long as he hits (mat 8), kills (Pow 12 with 4 dice damage) and has a model in range (overtake + reach), who can then sprint away and be blocked off by models moving up like Brigands.

You could also move the brigands up first, with Quagmire on them, they make enemy models within melee of them -2 def, so maximus can move in and be Mat 10 + the above, with no risk to my own brigands since when he kills a model, he moves before he berserks.

2 points, bitches.

Gatorman Battle Engine:

Best model in the book, and Gators get the most from it with the possible exception of Morvhana 1.

It slices, it dices, it even Julienne's fries!

Well alright, it takes souls from friends and enemies within 9". Sweet, but it gets D3 souls a turn. The important part is that as long as it has 1 soul it does its primary use. That is, Soulstorm! 1 instant damage to any model who walks within 2" of it, making it immune to single wound models without janktastic rules of some kind. 5" Base + 2" of soulstorm on both sides = 9" of no 1 wound infantry allowed. Its FA2...its FA3 with Gators.

Thats only if it has 1 soul! Only 1!

If you get more, your Caster gets more fury, which is incredible in gators. Barny gets a 3rd Swamp Pit while still upkeeping his spell, Maelok gets to cast everything and still camp!, Calaban still sucks hard!

If you get even more, you get access to Arcane Vortex! Spells cast at targets within 3" of the Battle Engine can be cancelled for a soul, hilarious when you pack a bunch of gators next to the battle engine against pDenny.

If you get even more, you might even want to try and boost its Range 12 Pow 12 Magical, eyeless sight gun which gets D3 shots just to kill Gorman ASAP.

So its kind of vulnerable against Beasts and jacks? Well...Kind of. In Gators it will always be spiny Growthed, so Arm 22 with D3 damage to heavies hitting it. Rask makes it immune to charges and shots for a turn, Barny can protect it with swamp pits in front of it, and Maelok will casually make it Arm 26. Caleban will still suck.

Remember, Gators can take *3* of these things. My Maelok list has instantly added 2 to it against Cryx, since I hear they like spamming 1 wound infantry to deal with things.

An awesome combo with the Soldier Ardus is putting beat back on it and beating back 6 inches bringing your beat back target with you the entire way....
