There's talk on the page about problems with kernel I/O, but I
understand Sun have fixed this with the latest "point patch" to
105181-26.
Haven't some sites been running ASE 12 on 2.6 for over a year now
(including Sybase's internal systems!), so why the sudden need to run
on 2.6, despite patches being available to fix the problem?
Anyone know anything further about this? Reason I ask is that I've
got dozens of 2.6 boxes running 11.9.2 and about to move to ASE 12.
Wouldn't like to have to upgrade Solaris at the same time - it's a big
enough job already....

solaris 8 has kernel optimizations that were made with databases in mind.
You want to upgrade, you really do.
Heck, after the upgrade, yhou might not want to bother moving to
ASE 12 ;-)
