We are running ASE 12 on an AIX 4.3.3 box, and several raw logical
volumes were created for Sybase. To backup those lvs we'd need to use
dd (since savevg will not do the job).

How do you backup ASE 12 raw logical volumes using dd? What do you use
for input and output block sizes in dd? What do you set block_size to
on the tape drive you backup to? How do you deal with LVCB (logical
volume control blocks) in the raw lvs (do you overwrite them?).
Finally, what is the matter by which you restore lvs via dd?

Thanks!
