I'm setting up ASE 12.0 on HP-UX using HP's logical volume manager to
configure the disks. The manual says to use the character device for
Sybase devices, but I thought I saw somewhere a while back that you
should use the block device when accessing HP logical volumes. Does
anyone know which is the correct one to use?

Thanks,

Tom

Sybase suggests to use character devices. You cannot even create a master
device on a block device. But other devices which are used for any other
databases (other than master) can be block devices. I used both character
and block. I did not notice any difference, probably there is..but I am not
aware of it. I would any day go with Character devices.
