Hello!

I use asa 9.02 and I use SybaseCentral. I would like to put all database
objects (tables,functions....) in groups.

Let say I have tabels, functions, procedures,trigers,views... about articles
and I would like to put all of them in group articles. And under articles I
would like to see groups of object types (tabels, views...)

Regards

Tomaz,

are you refering to a logical separation - as the existing concept of
ownership does? - You can define all those objects for a particular
user/group "article" and that way separate them from objects for a
different user/group named, say, "production" or "sales".

Or do you refer to a mere GUI enhancement in Sybase Central to display
objects below their owner?

I refer to GUI modification in SC but not Usergroups or users. I mean
logical separation of objects. Today we se in SC treeview which starts with
Database Server then Databases and then we have groups of
tables,Views,Indexes.... Thats fine. What I would like to view is one level
between database and tables,views,indexes.... so that I could group objects
logicaly.

I hope you understand me.

Are you aware that you can right click on the database and choose "Configure
Owner Filter", then select the user or users whose objects should be displayed?
This would allow you to view the objects for one user at a time.

Bruce, I don't talk grouping by owners, I talk about logical grouping of
database objects. I would like to create group Sales and all database
objects which I need for sales I would like to put in this group. Sales is
not user or group of users. when you have big database (many tabels,
functions, procedures...) I sometime dificult to find object if you don't
know exact name.

Your choices at this point are:
- group objects by owner
- use a naming convention for your objects that prefixes each name with a group
identifier (e.g. Sales_, Articles_)

You could also use the COMMENT ON statement to tag objects, but there would be
no way in Sybase Central to sort based on this.

Very GOOD idea! I am also need logical groups for database
objects. Working with DB where very many tables/procedures
really hard, It's like to work file system without folders.
I hope to see logical group feature in future versions of
SA.
