We've been asked to move a customer's database to Windows 2008 and are
unable to get the mobilink client to appear in the system tray when
the service starts up automatically. We:-
- are connecting to the machine through VNC,
- are certain that we are looking at the right user,
- are using verbose mode and
- have selected "interact with the desktop."

If we call the service manually with dbmlsrv9, the client program
appears and an icon appears in the system tray.

Reviewing what little there is online, we saw a comment that Jeff
Albion of Sybase (http://groups.google.com/group/
sybase.public.sqlanywhere.mobilink/browse_thread/thread/
cf4e55e2fd7a6e23/d4fe1ab3654b4fb1?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=%22interact+with
+desktop%22+mobilink+2008#d4fe1ab3654b4fb1) relating to version 10
stating that the feature was discontinued as it was not possible to
implement. However, the customer posting such debated this as others
could get it to work. This was a year ago...

Does anybody have an idea how to get this to work?

Found the following article, perhaps it'll help somebody other than
us.

According to one sybase article (http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/
topic/com.sybase.infocenter.dc30056.1520/pdf/iqicgwin.pdf note this is
for IQ but I would expect it applies to all products), Sybase
specifically turns off the ability to interact with the desktop to
protect one; explaining why the previous entry about shatter attacks
and how to get round the setting is useless.

Perhaps the "interact with desktop" and setting -i on the invocation
solves the problem. Or there's a console viewer application that I
have yet to find.
