Okay, I should have checked the log file FIRST.. It is failing when
it gets an assertion copying the data (when using version 9 of
dbunload, on a file I know has issues and am getting data out of).

However, I am still having issues trying to get the data out that IS
good when trying to use ASA 11. In general it will NOT allow the OLD
DB to be started. If I start it with ASA 9 I get the error that it
has been started with an old engine and to shut it down. BUT, if I
try to start it with ASA 11 (in any way I can think of) I get the
error that it cannot start the requested DB.

Since I want to go from ASA 9 (for a LOT of customers) to ASA 11 and
do the upgrade as easily as possible, AND at the same time get rid of
corrupt DB tables (I will know ahead of time which ones I want to
skip), I would prefer to do it without taking the data out into text
files, and then putting it back in (in oither words, use dbunload to
do it all in one step).

Thanks again for any advice...

With SA 11, you can't reload a pre-10 database in need of recovery. If
that is what's going on, try the following:

1. Start the database with 9.0.2 software (dbsrv9 or dbeng9).
2. Shut it down (by pressing 'q').
3. Try reloading using the 11 software.

Also, could you post the exact dbunload and dbsrv command lines you're
using and the SA 11 version?

Also, if you haven't already, you may want to take a look at the
documentation for rebuilding pre-10 databases using 11 software:
