"Unable to Start Database Server" using SQL Anywhere 8.0

Has anyone ever seen or encountered this error before. When using Sybase
Central from SQL Anywhere 8.0, the creation of databases stops right at the
moment of executing the creation event and presents me with the following
error message; "Unable to start Database Server". When I click "Ok" I
receive the following window with a JAVA "Stack Trace". Its a bit long but
maybe informative, however, it seems like I'm missing some JAVA packages or
classes. Can someone tell me if this is correct and how I can resolve this
issue. At this point,I'm not bale to create any database files for my
Rational products.
Additional information:
A database server is created and running in all instances of this issue.
No items were deleted or moved from the Anywhere folders.
Sybase Central version is 4.1.1.1370
Adaptive Server Anywhere 8 plug-in is at version 8.0.2.3601 and loaded at
startup.
SQL Anywhere 8 has been reinstalled on 2 different systems since and the
issue is still present

This is just a guess, but do you by chance already have a database
engine running on the machine where you are trying to create the new
database?

Thanks for the quick response Greg.
I did notice that in some cases a virtual server was created and recorded in
the ASASRV.ini file as the default database server. The server showed my
computer name with approximate 10 - 12 numbers. The sequence changed each
time I restarted my computer. Thus, I deleted this instance and created my
own server through the services option in Sybase Central. This server is
correctly registered in the ASASRV.ini file and starts up without a problem.
No other servers or services exist on my computer as far as I was able to
discover..
Are there any other locations than the ASASRV.ini file, where I might need
to check if another server is running..???

ASASRV.ini is not a list of services or servers used to startup a
database. It is a file used by *client* libraries to cache information
about any databases the libraries have connected to in the past.
To see if any servers are currently running on your machine, run Task
Manager and in the list of processes see if there are any whose name is
"dbeng8.exe" or "dbsrv8.exe".

I would first find out what these two database servers are for. Try
using the "dblocate" command-line utility to see if they are
broadcasting their names.
Are you running any other applications/services on that machine such as
mBusiness Anywhere, Unwired Accelerator, or possibly some other
third-party application?
If you aren't sure, consider searching your harddrive(s) for all
instances of "dbsrv8.exe". It could be that another third-party
application on your machien is built on top of SQLAnywhere.
