Converting from Sybase schema to Postgres does not preserve XML data type

Hi,
I'm reverse engineering a schema for a Sybase database with the goal of changing the DB model to Postgres.
The import works just fine, but powerdesigner insists on converting columns declared as XML type to varchar(1), even though Postgres has an XML data type.
Is there a workwaround, or a way to force this to be preserved?
