Hi,
We are migrating our 3 -tier PFC based Application build in Power
Builder 6.0 into Power Builder 9.0 .
After migrating using migration assistant we found some errors
which includes error for transport object which is obsoleted in PB
9.0 .
So please tell me what is the alternative option for using
Transport object ? Also How and where to use it?

Thanks & Regards,
P.P

The transport object was used for Distributed PowerBuilder, a feature
which no longer exists in the product since about PB6. Since you can't
build a DPB app with PB9, I'm not sure I understand a need for a
transport alternative in PFC. Maybe if you could explain how you're
using it, we might be able to provide the answer you need.

Sir,

We have created an instance of the transport object (in PB 6.0 => In
our PFC based, distributed application i.e. server and client
applications are seperate , 3-tier application ) when we start our
server application. That is before registering the nvo s. After
setting all it's properties like application, driver , location
ect....... we are calling the Listen( ) function.

Since the transport object is obsoluted and we want to migrate our
application from PB 6.0 to PB 9.0, I want to know what is the
alternative script that I will have to write ?

Thanks and Regards,
P.P.

Distributed PB isn't supported in PB9 (this is a PB issue, not a PFC
issue), as I said below, so there is no direct upgrade path. Just off
the cuff, not doing a full analysis of what you're trying to do,
you'll have to do a complete rewrite of that functionality writing
right down to the sockets level. (There may also be an alternate
design to achieve what you're trying to accomplish.) There's nothing
in PB nor PFC to help with the majority of this, that I can see.

Good luck,

Just adding to what Terry said ... the migration path for DPB is to
EAServer.

Sir,

Thanks for the information. May I know, what can be the other
alternatives (i.e. other than socket programming) ?

As per Mr. Chris Pollach, Can EAServer be one of the alternatives ?
EAServer is used only with Sybase database or it can be used with
other databases like MS SQL also ?

Thanks and regards,
P.P.
