Hi all

I migrated to 10.2 and keep getting the following messagebox in the dw
painter....

"The action just taken has forced the preview view to be rebuilt. You may
need to re-retrieve your data"

This appears every time I make a change even though I do not have the
preview pane open and "retrieve on preview" is deselected. I can't find a
setting to suppress this harmless but annoying message. Can anyone point me
in the right direction? 10.2 7516 XP

TIA

Greg

Greg;

I hardly ever get this message! What property(ies) are you changing.
Also, do you have allot of computed columns and/or expressions in this DW?

Thanks .. Chris

You get this message because you have the Retrieve on Preview option unchecked.
If you had it checked, your data will be automatically re-retrieved and you
would not see this msg. I had to turn it off on because the DW I was working on
retrieves a big result set.

Nothing fancy Chris, just any SQL change will trigger it

Andy

Thanks, that did it......FWIW the logic behind this appears backwards to
me.....or at the very least should only come into play when the preview pane
is actually active.....my .02

Thanks again

I have always received this message in PB 8, 9 , 10, etc when I changed
the SQL statement!
I do not get this message when I change object properties though.

I just find it annoying thats all. Receiving a prompt that the Update clause
has been altered is a very helpful reminder to me to adjust it, however, a
warning about a change to another pane that I don't have open is just
redundant and annoying....I know I altered the columns so I naturally expect
a change.....................just personal preference thats all

It would be nice to have an "option" to suppress that.

Greg,

So you think the datawindow will only be previewed if you request it? Overly
optimistic I would say... obviously not enough PB experience at this point.

Isn't that why the preview pane is an option? I don't want to see data in
preview mode so why should I be getting message regarding it. That was and
is all I was saying. Nothing more, haven't lost sleep over it and don't
expect Sybase to change it. Period.

Regardless of my PB experience, remarks such as yours if not meant as humour
are best left unsaid in these ng's

Greg,

My remarks were meant as humor to you, sorry I somehow eliminated the <g>
after my comment.

However, there is meant a bit of bite to my remorks with regard to Sybase...
since this is an obvious design flaw that points to a lack of concern about
performance.

I am sorry, I did not intend the message to be sent as it was.

scars visible]

What lack of concern about performance?
Which performance?

No problem Mike. Now that you've explained it and I've re-read it I see what
your intent was

No offence taken
