I wanted to thank you for sharing this information with us!
Does anybody knows of any roadmap for the Classic line? Any discussions
about it being held at Techwave? Would it be just supported or enhanced or
just abandoned someday?
Are there any planned enhancements of the Classic IDE (colapsible code
blocks, native PDF export, context jumps to function/event implementations,
reflection changes, better .NET support etc...)? Have you heard something
about the future of the webform targets, any chance to have the so-high
rated "Multi-browser support" ISUG enhancement request in a near version?
Thanks in advance for every response!
Regards,
Ivaylo

Unfortunately, there's only so much you can do with the current HTML
spec and JavaScript. You really can't make it truly browser agnostic
and feature rich at the same time. So you either use a plugin (flash,
silverlight or javafx), or you wait for HTML5 to fully evolve.
The company I work for is currently in the process of rewriting our
HTML/Javascript apps using Flash. At the time we had to make a decision
on how to proceed (2008) Silverlight was still in 1.0, JavaFX hadn't
been released and HTML5 was at draft 1. We had just reached the point
where we realized we would never be able to deliver the full
functionality that a line-of-business app needs and remain browser
agnostic using the tools we had been using to that point (struts, jsf,
spring, etc.)

They discussed some enhancements for it, like adding support for the
tableblob column type which is already in the WPF datawindow,

no, not really. The plan that I heard was to move the target types that
are currently in classic over into the .net IDE over time.

There weren't any plans announced to try to make the current webforms
targets browser agnostic. Instead, the focus is on a Silverlight target
and in addition possible support for HTML5, both of which would provide
a browser agnostic solution.

It would be great to have our Classic targets empowered with the .NET IDE
Shell for the editing/refactoring process. ;-)
Sadly, it seems like the current webform solution is doomed to stay the same
and until the new Silverlight and/or HTML5 approach is ready and cleared, we
won't have any better in-PB alternative for a long time :-((

Yep, still no PocketBuilder official news either. The silence on that one
IMHO means its a deprecated product (or as IBM says "stable" - aka ... we
ain't work'n on it no more dude <bg>).
