Datawindow Column Property - Override Edit?

I am trying to fix an edit mask issue I am having but came across the
property Override Edit on the General Tab under the protect property
setting. What does it do? I have searched through all the manuals looking
for a description of what the property is and can't find anything anywhere?
So what is the property Override Edit?

Take a look in the help file for the 'Criteria.property DataWindow object
property' . It is used in Prompt for Criteria dialog:

Override_Edit Whether the user must enter data in the Prompt for Criteria
dialog box according to the edit style defined for the column in the
DataWindow object or be allowed to enter any specifications in a standard
edit control. Values are:Yes - Allow the user to override the column's edit
style and enter data in a standard edit control.No - (Default) Constrain
the user to the edit style for the column.

We use it in querymode to allow te user enter for examople ">01/01/2007" in
an editmask with the mask 'dd/mm/yyyy'.

It is used in querymode. It essentially allows a user to enter anything in the
field and ignores (overrides) any formating/editing setting that are there while
in querymode. It doesn't do anything when it isn't in querymode.
