The DBMS type "MSS Microsoft SQL Server" is really required
in PowerBuilder, MS SQL Server is a leading database
technology in the market... Sybase's poor marketing
technology made MS SQL Server in the high. Removing the DBMS
tyoe "MSS Microsoft SQL Server" will help either SYBASE nor
the PowerBuilder Developers...

Thanks,
Danny

You do realize that the driver is actually "MSS Microsoft SQL Server 6.5"
and as such is intended for MSS 6.5 i.e., it is native ONLY for MSS 6.5.
Microsoft stopped enhancing the dblib interface (the foundation for the MSS
'native' driver) and starting in MSS 7 the native connectivity technology
for MS SQL Server was based on OLEDB . Do you really want to use a driver
that does not have the features introduced in MSS 7 and later i.e., support
for varchar columns > 255 characters?

The reason for dropping the MSS 6.5 native driver is simply due to PB10
being a UNICODE application. The dblib is not UNICODE and as such could not
be carried forward with PB10.

There has been indications that MSS is reintroducing a interface that will
not be OLEDB based. If and when that driver becomes a reality, it will
likely appear as a driver option in PowerBuilder.

If you read the Release Notes and this FAQ on the newsgroup, you would
understand that the MSS driver was removed in PB10 due to the fact it
is not Unicode capable. And, no longer supported by Microsoft.

Perhaps you should redirect your request to Microsoft to resurrect the
DB-LIB driver (good luck!).

While you wait for a response from Microsoft, you can successfully use
the ODBC, OLEDB, JDBC, or ADO.NET drivers to connect PB10 to Microsoft
SQL Server.

I use the OLEDB driver for MS SQL for 1000's of users. You'll be ok. There
are a few conversion issues but they are related to ConnectionString
Modifications, Transaction Handling when dealing with Triggers and Multiple
Result Sets.

Good Luck,
Richard
